Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in collaboration with other project partners (GIZ, WEDC/Loughborough University, University of Leeds, Eawag/Sandec, World Bank and SuSanA) is organizing one day capacity building workshop on “Make your own excreta flow diagram (Shit Flow Diagram -SFD) during the WEDC conference from 11th to 15th July 2016. Aims

SFDs are a popular tool to help Cities plan sanitation service delivery but previously lacked a standard methodology and procedure for developing them. The focus of this CDW is to introduce the participants to the tools developed by the SFD PI to provide a consistent approach and format. The workshop will give the participants practical experience in using these tools. This will culminate in the participants being able use the tools and to develop their own SFD and accompanying report.

Target Participants This workshop is designed for those who wish to develop SFD for a town or city. Participants may be:

Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), international NGOs, government agencies, or individuals interested in mapping the excreta flows in towns or cities.
Decision makers who are interested in gaining a better knowledge of how SFD are developed and can support sanitation service planning.

PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING A LAPTOP WITH THEM

Outcomes/Objectives
On completion of the workshop participants will be able to:

Understand SFDs (diagram and report) and the history of their development
Understand the need for a standardized methodology
Understand the available tools including their context, range and how to use them.
Use the tools developed to go through a worked example
Start using the tools to develop a SFD for their city
Understand the support available to enable the development of SFD for their city
